Rhododendron — buransh, in the hills — flowers across the Himalayan slopes for a few weeks each spring. Deep red, high on the trees, and gone almost as quickly as it arrives. The flowers are gathered in that window and dried; there is no second harvest.
Here they are blended with rose petals, tulsi and mint. The buransh brings a light floral tartness, the tulsi grounds it, and the mint lifts the finish. Naturally caffeine-free.
Good hot on a cold morning. Equally good brewed strong, cooled and poured over ice.
How to brew
One teaspoon — about 2 to 3g — in a cup of freshly boiled water. Steep 5 to 7 minutes; this blend needs longer than a black tea to open up. Strain. Honey if you want it, though it carries its own sweetness.
